Do You Trust Your Builder?

Aug 3, 2020 | 0 comments

Investing in an ADU on your property can be an exciting, even life-changing decision. It can also be a daunting and stressful decision.  There is a lot at stake financially, and plenty of considerations to keep you up at night.

  • Will my vision come to life?
  • Will my contractor stick within my budget?
  • I am not a designer – how will I make plan decisions?

No builder can promise that every step in the process will go perfectly. But what they can promise is to be open and honest about who they are, how they operate, and what they do to limit the risks and unknowns for your project.

Simply put, we build ADUs because we like doing so. We believe they are purposeful and efficient. They address many different housing needs and situations. They can uplift families and allow our team to earn a living doing something rewarding.

Construction projects are often the single largest expenditure of anyone’s life. Blowing $250 on a lousy purchase is vastly different than making a mistake with $250,000.  I have worked with many clients over my career with different personalities, desires, financial situations, communication preferences, and priorities. What I have found to be the foundation (pun intended) and the common thread which exists in all of these projects are two things: trust and communication.

The design/build process is a lot like traveling in a plane. Ultimately you have little control of where the plane goes and how safely it arrives there. You simply trust that the pilot and crew are good at their jobs. You trust that they are looking out for your best interest (as well as their own). Your project with us is the same. We know where you want to end up and we know how we need to get you there – within your budget and as efficiently as possible.

A pilot who plots a course for a route flown many times before can not be certain the route will be the same the next time. A host of issues can arise that would cause the pilot to react and alter course. When that happens, they let you know that there is a plane at the intended gate or they have to divert due to weather. But ultimately, they safely get to the place they intended.

Much like that plane trip, the design and build process can have unknowns. Unexpected roadblocks – like delays with permit processing or inspections – may cause us to shift slightly. But like that pilot who knows that all the people on board have entrusted their lives to him or her, you can trust that we will get you to where you intend to be. And like that pilot who comes over the intercom to tell the passengers what is happening, rest assured we will be communicating throughout the process so you stay informed.

We cannot predict every nuance of your project. What we can predict is that we will deliver on your vision. We will do so for the price we laid out. It is our job. It is what you are entrusting us to do.

To use a line from my kids’ favorite movie, Aladdin… “Do you trust me?” If the answer is yes, I ask that you let me show you what we can do. Learn more about our team here.
