This young couple had just bought their first home in Oceanside and now have a baby on the way. With their family expanding, it was the perfect time for grandma to have an ADU built in the backyard. The lot was more challenging, with existing structures to be moved and a significant grade that would require a small retaining wall. We positioned the ADU to minimize the overall sitework costs, for instance ensuring the grading would require no import or export of soil.
The client wanted her new home design to feel very open to entertain and also wanted lots of natural sunlight. We started with a standard plan and modified it to enlarge the great room, plus added a large patio. The end result was a 1080 sqft 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom open concept plan with clerestory windows and French doors that will open out into the backyard. She is excited about the project completion so she can spend lots of time with her new grandbaby.
