This homeowner in Lake Murray, San Diego, wanted to add a one bedroom rental unit to his property as an accessory dwelling unit. Using a standard 1BR/1BA 550 sqft plan, the owner added a larger L-shaped kitchen with a gray finish, providing ample counter and storage space for cooking and entertaining and expanding the square footage to 610 sqft. French doors leading into the living/kitchen area allow natural light to flood in, creating a bright and airy atmosphere.

The homeowner also added flatwork around the unit, providing plenty of outdoor living space for residents to enjoy. A private sidewalk leading up to the unit ensures that guests and residents have their own separate entrance and can enjoy privacy and seclusion from the main home. Additionally, privacy hedges have been added to further separate the ADU from the main house.

The homeowner was able to rent this unit within one week of completion.
