The La Mesa ADU Guide

At SnapADU, our accessory dwelling unit expertise extends throughout the Greater San Diego area, including La Mesa. We’ve efficiently permitted  ADUs in this city and have extensive knowledge of La Mesa’s regulations and processes. La Mesa allows for digital submissions with a clear tracking system. Turnaround times at the city are relatively quick and the city staff is very helpful.

La Mesa ADU Fee Waiver Program

In La Mesa, a fee for the plan review is assessed based on several factors, including the floor area of the proposed adu, whether or not the adu will be attached or detached, and whether you will be converting an existing garage into an ADU. Projects that only propose an ADU are exempt from park fees and the first ADU is exempt from Regional Transportation Congestion Improvement Program (RTCIP) fees. Additional units are required to pay the applicable impact fees. As an added incentive for homeowners to pursue ADU projects, the City of La Mesa will waive the first $2000 of permitting fees associated with ADU projects.

Does La Mesa have Pre-Approved ADU Plans?

No, La Mesa has not published pre-approved ADU plans. However, the city put out an ADU Guidebook, which can be accessed through their La Mesa ADU guidelines page. That guide includes several inspirational floorplans. See more about pre-approved ADU plans. You can also see our build-ready plans.
